Cookie Policy

This policy explains how MonetAdvice uses cookies and similar browser technologies, including local storage.

Current use of browser storage

MonetAdvice uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity cookies only after you allow Analytics. The site does not currently use advertising cookies, advertising pixels, affiliate tracking cookies, or cross-site behavioral advertising. The site stores a first-party privacy-preference record in your browser so it can remember whether you accepted or rejected optional categories. That record is retained for up to 180 days unless you delete it sooner. If you complete live AI research, the site also stores a timestamp for up to 24 hours for the browser research cooldown. Server request protection is handled separately by Vercel. The timestamp contains no debt or calculation values.

If you allow Functional storage, the most recent valid inputs for each calculator are saved in first-party local storage and restored on the same device. This category is optional and is not written or read before permission is granted.

What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files stored by a website in your browser. Similar technologies, including local storage, can remember preferences or other information on a device. This policy uses "browser storage" to refer to both cookies and similar technologies unless a distinction is necessary.

Storage categories

Necessary storage supports the privacy control and short-term abuse prevention. Functional storage remembers recent calculator inputs on your device. Analytics storage allows Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to measure page use and privacy-safe product interactions. Advertising storage is not currently used. Optional categories remain disabled unless you allow them.

Calculator information

Debt balances, savings targets, APRs, expected APYs, payment or contribution inputs, and calculated results are processed locally in your browser. With Functional storage allowed, the most recent valid inputs for each calculator can be stored in first-party local storage and restored on the same device. Reset calculator or a fresh-start link removes the saved scenario for that tool. Rejecting or withdrawing Functional storage removes saved scenarios for all six calculators, including Emergency Fund Calculator, from this browser. Generated share actions use a clean calculator URL and do not place debt inputs in it. The optional Gemini research request is a server-side data transfer rather than a cookie; it is described in the Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics 4

After Analytics consent, MonetAdvice loads Google Analytics 4 using measurement ID G-12NK4HHYFS. It can set the first-party cookies _ga to distinguish visitors and _ga_<container-id> to maintain session state. Google's default expiry for these cookies is two years, subject to browser limits and any shorter setting applied in the Google Analytics property.

Google Analytics can receive the page title, page path and URL without query parameters, a referrer without query parameters, consented interaction event names, a tool identifier, session activity, approximate location, and browser or device information. MonetAdvice analytics events do not include calculator inputs, balances, APRs, expected APYs, payments, contributions, calculated results, debt names, or direct identifiers. Google Signals and advertising-related consent signals remain disabled in the site implementation.

Microsoft Clarity

After Analytics consent, MonetAdvice can load Microsoft Clarity to provide aggregated heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity can set _clck to associate activity with a pseudonymous site visitor and _clsk to connect page views within a session. Microsoft can also use its own service cookies as described in its Clarity cookie documentation. Clarity advertising storage remains denied.

Clarity can record clicks, scrolling, mouse movement, selections, page visibility, performance information, and masked page structure. Calculator forms and result sections are explicitly masked. MonetAdvice custom events include only categorical calculator identifiers and action names, never calculator inputs, financial values, calculated results, debt names, or free text.

Global Privacy Control

When a browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, MonetAdvice treats it as an opt-out of targeted advertising and sale or sharing of personal information where applicable. The advertising preference remains disabled while that signal is active.

Change or withdraw your choice

Use "Cookie preferences" in the footer at any time to review or change optional categories. You can also remove stored preferences through your browser settings. Rejecting optional storage does not prevent core calculations, CSV export, or printing, but the site will not restore calculator inputs on a later visit. Withdrawing Analytics consent stops future MonetAdvice analytics events and removes recognized first-party Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies for this site. Browser controls can also be used to remove stored data.

Third-party services

Google and Microsoft provide consented analytics, Vercel provides hosting and delivery, and Google Gemini processes a limited scenario only when optional live AI research is requested. Hosting providers may process technical request information needed to deliver and secure the site. Gemini is a server-side data transfer rather than a browser cookie. See the Privacy Policy.

Advertising and future services

Google Search Console may be used to understand search visibility without adding a cookie to the site. No advertising provider is currently connected. Before Google AdSense serves ads to visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, MonetAdvice will replace or integrate the current preference interface with a Google-certified consent management platform that supports the required consent signals.

Policy updates

Effective September 29, 2026. MonetAdvice may update this policy when browser storage practices, service providers, or legal requirements change. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
